When do you need UX research before building your platform?
The bigger the platform, the higher the cost of misunderstanding the user. One wrong screen can repeat across dozens of pages and roles.
Research before building when you serve more than one type of user with different roles, when you are replacing a manual or legacy system, or when you do not know what blocks your users today.
It does not need a huge study: short interviews with a small number of users, and testing a prototype before writing code, reveal many problems early.
The result is clear priorities and design decisions with a reason, instead of relying on opinions.
