How to plan a data migration to a new platform

Migrating data from an old system is the riskiest part of moving to a new platform, and it needs planning before any code.

Start by taking stock of existing data and cleaning it: what moves, what is archived, what is deleted, then map old fields to new ones.

Rehearse the migration on a copy of the data more than once, review samples with business owners before the real move, and keep a backup.
